Naturopathic Medicine
Personalized naturopathic care that combines natural therapies with evidence-informed medicine.
At Functional Medicine Collaborative, naturopathic care combines evidence-informed natural therapies with an individualized approach to health. Depending on your needs, care may include nutrition, lifestyle recommendations, botanical medicine, supplements, acupuncture, and other therapies.
What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic medicine is a whole-person approach to healthcare that combines natural therapies with evidence-informed medical care. Naturopathic doctors consider a patient’s health history, symptoms, lifestyle, nutrition, environment, and other factors that may be contributing to their health concerns.
At Functional Medicine Collaborative, Dr. Sean Foss, ND, LAc, uses an individualized approach to naturopathic care. Depending on the patient’s needs, recommendations may include nutrition and lifestyle changes, botanical medicine, supplements, acupuncture, and other therapies.
Dr. Foss works collaboratively with patients to understand their concerns and goals and develop a care plan that fits their individual health needs. When appropriate, naturopathic care can also be used alongside conventional medical care and other treatments.
Common Questions About Naturopathic Medicine
What conditions can naturopathic medicine help address?
Naturopathic medicine may be used as part of the care approach for a variety of chronic and complex health concerns. At Functional Medicine Collaborative, Dr. Foss works with patients experiencing concerns such as Lyme and tick-borne illness, PANS/PANDAS, digestive issues, autoimmune conditions, environmental illness, fatigue, and other chronic health concerns. Care is individualized based on each patient’s health history, symptoms, and needs.
What’s the difference between a naturopathic doctor (ND) and a conventional doctor (MD)?
Naturopathic doctors (NDs) and medical doctors (MDs) have different educational pathways, scopes of practice, and approaches to patient care. Naturopathic medicine places particular emphasis on whole-person care, prevention, nutrition, lifestyle, and the use of natural therapies when appropriate. The services an ND can provide vary by state based on licensing laws and scope of practice.
Does naturopathic medicine work alongside conventional medicine?
Yes. Naturopathic medicine can be used alongside conventional medical care. When appropriate, naturopathic doctors may collaborate with primary care physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to help coordinate a patient’s care.
Is a naturopathic doctor the same as a primary care doctor?
No. Naturopathic care at Functional Medicine Collaborative is not a replacement for primary care. We encourage patients to maintain a relationship with a primary care physician for routine preventive care, screenings, urgent medical needs, and other appropriate medical services.

“I had the opportunity to see Dr. Foss twice while I was on the cape. I’ve had significant chronic back pain that has worsened over the last year and a half. My two appointments involving acupuncture and cupping were fantastic and I could feel the improvements. It was a great experience, and I wish I lived here where I could receive treatment more regularly. Highly recommended.”
